Video is 11 years old so I hope this still works (these days it’s Ableton Live 11/12) cuz man this is EXACTLY what I’ve been trying to do.

How do I install these in Live 12 Lite?

I've never used tags in any app I’ve worked with. Polarity Music has a good video about why. The short of it is that most sounds are so context dependent that if you tagged them based on how they were used in that specific project, that specificity wouldn’t translate to another use case. Tagging is one more thing that takes time away from making music imho. Proceed with caution.

Thanks I appreciate the extra information. I'm baffled why they didn't go with a machine learning analysis plus tagging like Sononym. I'm thinking all this hard work will be redundant soon.. Anyone else have similar thoughts?

Thanks for the video, Madeleine! But it's still very hard to love the updated browser. I tried different things, tried saving searches, creating sub-categories, mark my own presets with some special tag but nah, it's all starts to be a mess very fast... So what I decided to do is just create my own structure with folders and saved presets in my User Library (I remember Tom ELPHNT did something like this too). This way I can put the whole folder or even few folders into my Collection or link it to the places and have some structure.

if only tagging and collections would work together ...

I don’t like to complain because I cannot code and I’m just a user. But I’ve used Live since version 7 and my honest option is that this browser update is horrible. Also Live is great but becoming a bit boring in the way that I looks.

I've gave up on creating subtags because I tried renaming a tag with a pipe in it, but Ableton won't let you do that so I thought it was impossible. Turns out you can create with pipe, but not rename! Apart from that I am sold on the tagging system. Solved a major organisation problem for me

Bei 12 irgendwie anders aber du hast mich auf den richtigen Weg gebracht. Hab ne Behringer TD3 mit Ableton verbunden und die Spur wurde immer zu leise aufgenommen. Nun weiß ich wie man die aufgenommene Spur später lauter machen kann. War schon am verzweifeln. Danke

Hello Madeleine. Nice work! A silly question but Im struggling to midi mapping that "play" button! Once I did all the process and the Drum rack trigger the arpeggio or the notes one at the time with the "play" button via my mouse, when choose "midi" in ableton to do the mapping and the instances show in purple it does not allow that "play" button turn in to purple in any of the two instances! so can't make my external drum pad to trigger that "play button" Did you know why is that ? and how to fix it? I just want that Ableton recognize via midi the "play" button. Thank you in advance and continue with your discoveries.

Does anyone know of a utility that allows one to export or collect info on all the plugins/patches/presets (esp. 3rd party) that were used on a project. When opening older projects on a newer system (new OS, new version of ableton) , there are times when an older version of a plugin (e.g., Kontakt 4, Reaktor 5, etc...) may no longer exist or won't load on your current system so there is no way, in some cases, to even know what instrument/patch was used. I will admit I've been guilty of being pretty bad about documenting everything in either info text notes or in track/clip names, and resolve to do better - BUT it would be a really cool time saver just to export something that lists the plugs you used, patches/sample library/preset, tempo, etc... to refer to at a later date. I think Presonus Studio One and Reaper have such a feature.

quick tip, when describing Windows shortcuts don't say Control Windows, I know you meant 'it's control in windows' but we have a Windows key and it sounded like you're saying use Control plus Windows key, if you see what I mean? It can cause confusion for windows users. (delete this comment after you read it ;))

Thank you very much. As many, the -EnableArmOnSelection drew me to this hack. As a note for those new to this. You need to have a track armed to get this setting to behave the way you think it will. What it actually does, is it takes the current arm state (only if a single track is armed) and applies it to the selected (or new) track. If you have no armed tracks or multiple armed tracks, you will not get a track armed on selection.

Great stuff. I wanted to put some useful keyboard shortcuts on the side bar, but I wanted it to open for every new project or every new mix. So I just replaced the introduction LessonsEN .txt inside Abelton's Lessons folder. Located at C:\ProgramData\Ableton\Live 12 Standard\Resources\Builtin Lessons\TableOfContents\DefaultToc Lessons

hmmm the hack seems interesting but so far i don't see anything pop up, the folder names are identical with the lessons folder having the text template inside... anything suggestions?

Please make a lesson about smoothly changing the tone of a note from low to high, exactly smoothly, without jumps. I mean a long note, for example 8 bars.
